Strange lag, in all games.
I noticed that in Guild Wars I was having very strange lag. My screen would freeze, and then after a few seconds place me somewhere else. I saw the yellow icon in the top right of my screen, indicating that Guild Wars was downloading something, so that explained the lag for me. This same lag is also going on in other games, and I am not downloading anything, and I dont have spyware. My hardware can run GW with ease, so I don't think it is hardware related, unless it might be overheating?

isn't your internet just too slow?? or do you have a high ping because of a wireless router or isn't someone just downloading on your internet without that you know it (that is possible if you have a wireless router and don't set a password, i know all about that )
btw if you have a wireless router and you didn't secure it i would chose wpa or wep encryption

I am not running wireless internet, and I am not downloading anything. I can pretty much say it isn't anything to do with my internet or hardware, because I have never had this problem before. Usually when the outpost is laggy, the kind of lag I have is I run somewhere, then 3 seconds later I zoom back to where I started. This lag is I start moving, the screen freezes up for a few seconds, and then it continues normally. I am having this in GW and other games, but it is worst in GW. The only change made to my computer since the time when it wasn't lagging at all was installing Norton Systemworks. I have disabled that and it still lags, so I don't think it is that either...
I was hoping it was just the fact that GW was downloading in the background, because I was getting the yellow icon in the top right of my screen, but the fact that it is happening in almost all of my games makes me think it is something else. Overheating?

alright im having a similar problem. I have Yahoo dsl, and i have 2 connections via an actuall wire, through a d-link router. About every 3-5 hours, my wired connection gives out and my network software says that connection is lost. I dont know why it does this. I have to unplug my router, then plug it back in and after a few seconds it connects again. It doesnt take to long, but its annoying. Does anyone else have this problem. What should i do?

Alias X ...how many background programs do u have running? (bottom rite, next to the time...all those icons) Norton AntiVirus takes up ALOT of processing....so manybe altho u stopped it, it wouldnt hurt to get rid of its icon on the bottom (if there is 1) Try to get rid of everything that isnt needed, and make sure to get the hidden/inactive ones too...
im not a techy geek...and im sure u've already thought of this, but its just a thoughtful attempt to help
in some places like huge cities, in appartment complexes, etc. ur sharing ur cable connection with everyone else near by...so maybe theres just more internet action going on near u...
maybe u should turn off ur computer for an hour, then reboot it.... just for kicks....

Alias X - Hmm... sounds like your NIC card (or onboard LAN) may be going. This just happened on my gfs comp. She started lagging real bad in GW and it got progressivly worse. Tried a few other games and lagged out. I replaced the NIC card and had no problems since.
Mesmer in Need - Try a direct connection to your modem. If that does not solve it then try a new NIC card. It's either your router or your NIC card.

I'm betting norton is your problem i don't know why you would use that anyways there programs are super resource hogs and they don't even work that good and even if you disable them through the norton control panel there still running in the back groud my advise uninstall norton and use the norton cd as a coster cuz thats all norton is good for

I have an onboard network card, and my motherboard is maybe 2 months old, so I doubt it is that, but it sure is worth a try. I also have an old NIC card somewhere, so I will pop that in and plug my connection into it to see if it clears up.

it isnt really that my network lag, its that it just loses conectivity. I think there is something wrong with my router.
